Lego Birthday Party

I love a good theme party and this Lego birthday party for my son was budget friendly and is easy to recreate! I am taking a break from house design and DIY and today breaking down how to host a Lego birthday party with a little DIY. Like most 5 year olds, my son loves Legos! As a #boymom, I love that he is into something that also engages his brain and is a STEM toy. One of the great things about Legos are the colors. You can find so many materials in the basic Lego primary colors. I’m going to break down his party step by step from food, to decor and crafts.

Lego snack table

The inspiration for the whole party came from the giant Lego head storage container. I found one on Craigslist and snagged it for $20, but you can order one on Amazon HERE.

I knew I wanted this Lego head to be the centerpiece for the snack table, so I wrapped a box in blue wrapping paper to elevate it from everything else on the table. From there I added 4 wire baskets to add height to the back of the table. Mine came from the Target dollar spot area, but I have also found them at Oriental Trading. I always think everything pops on either a black or white background and with these primary colors, a black disposable tablecloth really made these colors pop. Spritz makes the awesome building blocks garland that I decided to hang on the front of the table and I found it on Amazon HERE.

Lego snacks

Let’s talk food because that is my favorite part of a party! I really wanted all the kids to feel comfortable and like they could grab anything themselves. So, finger foods were key at this party! I made Lego PB&J, Lego gummies, popcorn in Lego popcorn boxes, Lego Rice Krispy treats and marshmallow Lego heads. Multicolored goldfish and M&Ms were a sweet addition to the snack table as well. I also wrapped juice boxes and water bottles in construction paper so they would fit the theme. My son absolutely loves all things gummy bears and I knew he would go crazy for some homemade Lego gummies! All you need is the building block molds, corn syrup (or substitute), unflavored gelatin and the jello packets. I found this recipe from Jan D’Atri and it worked perfectly! This set of six molds from Amazon worked amazingly.

I made the recipe a total of four times so that I had red, yellow, blue and green gummies. I would recommend buying at least four different colors of Jello.

The Paper popcorn boxes were a great find and made it super fun for the kids so they could walk around with their popcorn!

My step mother is a master cake baker and she tacked the giant Lego cake. Just add your child’s favorite mini figure and you have the perfect cake topper!

Lego Party Activities

No Lego party would be complete without something other than snacks to keep the kids busy. If you are feeding them sugar, you have to give them an outlet!

For this Lego birthday party I knew we had to have a few building stations. I created two building stations for all our master builders with traditional Legos. I created a smaller building station for the younger children with larger Duplo blocks. You really can adjust this party and make it entirely a Duplo party if your child is younger and is not quite ready for the traditional Legos. All you need for the building stations are the building mats and a box of Legos. My son already had a box of Legos, but i purchased another box and told him that was one of his birthday presents.

The yellow boxes of Legos are not only great for storage, but the boxes also really add to the decor. Lego makes these in small, medium and large. I opted for the Lego Classic medium creative brick box that you can pick up on Amazon or your next Target run.

In addition to the building stations, I also had a station set up where the kids could grab their own Master Builder construction hat and color their own mini figure.

This table cost me less than $20 to set up and was a huge hit! The construction hats are from Oriental Trading and are less than $8 for a pack of 12. I found the stacking crayons from Target and used a free print out I found and made sure I had many extra copies at the party .

Lego Decor

The favor bags were also part of the decor. I bought small bags in blue, yellow, red and green and cut out small circles from construction paper to make the bags look like Lego bricks.

In each treat bag, was a building block bracelet, a building block lollipop and some Legos! Each kid also got to take home their master builder hat as well!

My son really enjoyed his Lego birthday party and I hope this inspires you to create your own Lego party.
